CHAPTER 9: QUO SECURITY CHIEF

Jaine Jurdak's martial arts training began at five in the morning.  She practiced in her private gym in the Royal Palace’s east wing.  The room held little. Her wall wide trophy case.  Various instruments she use in her training, weapons, a mat for meditation, everything except the trophies tucked away in hidden compartments.  Her especially octagon design gym reflected her specialized martial arts style.  After warming and stretching her muscles Jaine started her Eight style Kung Fu.

First she practice the fluid movements of Water Kung Fu.  Her arms and legs and torso and feet moving gently but powerful like water.  "Water wears down the rock" she say mentally practicing movements; "splash," she struck low with legs and hands, then high again toward the phantom's opponent's head; "trickle," and she moved her hands like a blur one before the other; "rushing river," and she lunged her left then right shoulder into her imaginary opponent;  "pond,"  "waves lapping beach," a series of legs thrust and kicks.  Jaine found Kung Fu relaxing and meditative.  Often insights arose given a fresh perspective into problems.  These perspective help her eliminate incorrect information.  Jaine liked order and above all positive results.

Jaine features her oval face with its dark eyebrows and yellowish skin, her impassive expression hadn't change much since her teen years.  Her individual facial features gave off a forgettable quality.  Only her complete impassive impression couple with its, "I've wanted to asks you something" look stuck in people’s mind.  In her teen years, Jaine kept winning second place in the national tournaments.  "Now, Big Metal Kung Fu."  Jaine performed the wide sweeping movements of air, cold, impersonal, above everything.  The Heaven Kung Fu she called it.  Old Master's Kung Fu.  Finally at 20 years old Jaine decided to create her own Eight Style Kung Fu.  Water, Big Metal, Little Metal, Big Earth, Fire, Little Wood, Big Wood and Little Earth styles gave her the edge she needed.  "This is order" Jaine said satisfied with her discovered Eight Style Kung Fu.  After one year training  in Eight Style, she won the Quoardian Nationals.  Finally after numerous second place trophies, she won first place!  Tournament directors also presented her with Creative Kung Fu award too.

Jaine hated to be disturbed while training.  Because to her, this was moving meditation.  The fact it cleared her head, relaxed her and gave her the physical skills to serve as Quo Security Chief were all side issues.  She felt healthy.  She took pride in her slim body, only five feet five inches tall.  And always that impassive face about to asks a question.  Couple this with her computer like mind and its no wonder she got the job at age 30.  Some people quietly protested, but having encountered her geek side in secret service security meetings and practical cases, everyone accepted Queen Morah's decision.

Jaine began Fire Style Kung Fu when a policeman knocked on the door and came in.
"Don't you know how to knock louder," she said not stopping her Fire Style movement "flicking candle."
"This is an urgent matter, Chief.  We found this woman, this girl and she was beating a guy--"
"Okay," Jaine said picking up a pink towel near the trophy case.  "Bring her in, close the door.  This better be good."
The policeman carried a bag.  The girl struggled, she was about eighteen, from Jaine perspective.  The girl had a black eye.  "Why are you abusing your prisoner?"
"She--this girl Isorfira knocked out two policemen."  He turned back to the girl.  "She lightening fast.  An expert I'd say in martial arts."
Jaine sat down on the floor and crossed her legs.  "Go on."
"She wore this--A red robe."
"So you arrested a girl Trick or Treating.  Maybe the guy asks for a beating.  What did the guy do?" Jaine said wiping the towel on her face and neck.
"Turns out the guy is suspected rapist . . ." the policeman hung his head, "Not enough evid--"
"Yeah, yeah," Jaine said.  "So Isorfira that guy attacked you?"
"He wished!"
"Just be cooperative, Isorfira okay?"
"He attacked someone I know."
"She was with two other girls.  They--last night attacked these--"
"Suspected rapist," Jaine finished for him.
"What do you want to do?" The Policeman said.
"The guy is pressing charges?" Jaine countered.
"No he's afraid to," said the Policeman.
"Why are you bringing this matter to me then?"
"Because these women beat up our Policemen.  These women are professionals."
Jaine scoffed, "You want me to recruit them?"
"No, but you should know they beat up several others."
"This damn war taken many men away from their wives, girlfriends, daughters."  Jaine stared at the Policeman.  "I'd think you be happy.  The low crime rate.  Since early years of this stupid war, rape has dropped considerably.  At first, it was out of control.  You probably don't study history, being a policeman.  They train you to see only black and white, good or bad issues.  No inbetween gray matters."
"She might be in a gang.  A larger group.  She's got a Rose and Dagger tattoo."
"Isorfira, are you in a gang?"
"No."
"Had your tattoo long?"
"Three years."
"Do you beat every guy you see?"
"Only those who abuse my sisters."
"How old are you?"
"Eighteen."
"You work?"
"For the Propaganda Office."
"You foolish Policeman!" Jaine said standing.  "You bring a loyal productive Quoardian, because she beats up rapist, child abusers."
Isorfira added, "Sexual harasser too."
"Shut up!" Jaine said.  "Give her back her Halloween costume.  Policeman, girls are allowed one of four tattoos.  The younger generation likes to rebel.  Let them--Arresting people who get tattoos."
"No.  But--But!"
"Give it back."
"I'm telling you she's an expert."  The Policeman said frantic.  "I don't want it to fall on my head if she's a spy or something."
"We'll see if she's an expert.  Unlock her hands and feet."
The Policeman did as Jaine told him.
Isorfira asked for the bag and the Policeman tossed it.  She put the robe inside the bag. She rubbed her wrists and ankles for a second.
"All right.  Let's see your Kung Fu," said Jaine as she tossed away her towel and moved like light first racing inside a window.  Her Water Style Kung Fu baffled the girl.  Isorfira made a few pathetic counter moves, but in twenty seconds she struggled to breathe. Jaine dropped her right hand from Isorfira's throat. "Go back to the Propaganda Office."  Jaine turned around and retrieved her towel.
"And Policeman, give her back all her belongings.  No funny business.  And I'll have your job, if you ever bring another frivolous case to me or anyone again."

Jaine finished her practice.  Final preparations for the Honeymoon between her Cousin Morah and Lord Tweezer loomed ahead.  And although Lord Tweezer said there be no honeymoon—he’d participate.  This provided Jaine's toughest challenge yet.  She wanted to use a hotel, but no way could they guarantee the grounds.  She'd have to double the Quo agents, but the Palace location held every conceivable counter to any threat.  Sure Lord Tweezer might nosey around, but she'd leave Queen Morah to control him.  After all she was sleeping with the determined warrior, He-Man.

Jaine almost laughed when she experienced Isorfira fake her pathetic Kung Fu.  The girl no doubt possessed better skill, but demonstrate her wisdom hiding them.  Still it reminded Jaine how enthusiastic Golden Rose members became after Samhain celebrations.  She'd have to talk with Queen Morah.  Put the word out for Rose and Dagger members to be more cautious, but don't stop defending women and girls.  Those other two girls should have made sure everyone escaped.  On the plus side, this policeman's gossip will inform other policemen to steer clear of females in the blood-red robes.  On the negative side, why is he the bravest policeman.  No other policeman dared to bring this to my attention.  He just might be a Galan spy.  She finished her Little Earth Style Kung Fu, Jaine body felt good.  Why now policeman #1323? Jaine pondered.  She got on her intercom, "Lomara I want the entire palace swept for nanotechnology immediately."  Lomara said she do so at once.

Now Jaine felt better.  Still drenched with sweat, Jaine headed off for a shower.
