Chapter 32: RAYDGALIL SHIPS OUT
© Cupideros Thursday, May 07, 2009
Soft classical music from the eighteenth and nineteenth century master played loud on RaydGalil's Pritee-U1 box inside his house. If he'd had family in the house, it wasn't loud enough to disturb any of them though. However, as RaydGalil lay on his bed. He knew the Universal Raccoon lay on the ceiling watching. He’d heard his methodical knocking, trying to distract and scare. This music will counter whatever signals the Universal Raccoons are sending to each other; it will counter any scare tactics too. I simply won't hear their nonsense, ceaseless coded chatterings. He thought about putting on his headphones, but he'd have to first check and see or remove sneaky BMT nanos embeded at the temple points. No. RaydGalil decided to let the music play loud. RaydGalil did not mind SILTH's nonsense because he believed this latest turn of events was not because of SILTH. No. SILTH was set up inside his home and comfortable, looking, studying him for habitual routines and an opportunity to strike. So what they stole his paperback copy of the 3,500 sayings of the Last Prophet CE, worth $10,000 old earth dollars. He remembered some sayings. No. SILTH's bafflement worried them too. Now, SILTH would have to start at ground zero all over finding out where he would be. Whom would he be around? No. Fate saved me, RaydGalil thought. The Abyss is unpredictable and unknowable. I am in her soft hands waiting, waiting for a great event. After a few hours RaydGalil turned around and slept with his head facing the ceiling where his feet normally faced on his bed. It would take SILTH a few hours or even a day to punch a new tiny hole to view him from above. He would be long gone by then, shipped out. He put both his hands behind his head. RaydGalil closed his eyes and his Juliette, TelGara, came again into his mind. This warmed his heart and made him happy. He knew somehow, someway, fate was pulling them together. Maybe on the Quodarian side. Funny. TelGara said she was coming to rescue him. Of course, he thought it laughable. He’d only met her on a vacation trip in Sirap, Gian. Does a girl pursue a guy these days? Not on the Galan side. Relationships between men and woman have not changed much since antiquity 21st century old Earth. Then again, she did get him that UniViewer message! How did she know Lucky would contact him? Was QSA so deep inside Galan, TelGara could rescue him? The thought didn’t seem laughable now at all.
Harness hitch loops always fascinated RaydGalil as a child. He was a city kid, but you tie harness hitch loops at the end of a bowline. RaydGalil even tried tying a heaving-line bend nautical knot used for attaching the end of weight heavy line to a hawser. The intricacies of the knot amazed him. Life was like a knot. Simple enough once tied, but to see all the twist and turns once the knot was finish. A saying about how we knot our own destinies before birth came to his mind:

Woman or man is handed a rope

Before they enter life’s living dream.

Each supplied with choices how to tie.

As they tie, they select what stream,

Or river or lake or ocean or sea to learn.

Learning to embrace their chosen fate.

For the diamond knot holds our load,

We choose before we left heaven’s abode,

It does not unravel, it does not break.

FROM THE 3,500 SAYINGS OF THE LAST PROPHET CE.
Perhaps if he had been able to tie a diamond hitch knot for controlling the loads put on an animal’s back, he’d be on a farm right now. Maybe riding the rodeo circuit. He mused some more and decided not to be worried about SILTH at all. He would have faith. The Abyss was everything and capable of protecting him. But still, he’d have no habits. He’d stay aware. Being a human white rat did one thing for RaydGalil no religious book-knowledge does—made him actually practice his faith. His situation brought him face-to-face with the Abyss. He could no longer drift around foggy brained. He would have to live a purposeful life. He would learn to know himself, weakness and strengths. He would improve himself every day. He’d rise to his destiny. He’d carry his load, tied to his back with the diamond knot seal. With that, RaydGalil drifted into sweet sleep into the Abyss’ loving arms, not knowing if he’d ever meet his Juliette’s smile again.
